LUCKY FAN: Arlene Del Rio

Mrs. Arlene is a leader in her community and an outstanding compassionate woman. She’s a mom, a grandmother, and the woman behind Pastor Del Rio of Abounding Grace church.

Here’s what we did:

KUT

Mrs. Arlene required a look that’s easily maintained and something in which she can brush and go. Our LASIO Studios stylist, Coretta, gave her a short cut that allowed for a more textured look and an asymmetrical bang to frame her face.

KOLOR

Katy, provided an intense three step color correction service to take Mrs. Arlene from a yellow blond to a natural golden look, which included hand painted highlights.

MAKEUP

We then finished the look with a blowout, fresh makeup using a spring pink shade on her lips, and a bright red knit sweater and tank set provided by our clothing sponsor Beldini.

A bold yet elegant new look provided in this week’s Facebook Fan Makeover!

KUT

With her hair already being at a complementary length for her facial structure, Coretta kept her length but added some layers to provide volume and face framing pieces.

After test results proved their original product contained over 10% formaldehyde, the makers of Brazilian Blowout have come out with a new formula called ZERO. The company claims this new formula is completely free of formaldehyde; instead, it works by using a plant-based bonding system called “KeraSafe.”

Brazilian Blowout’s recent press release states that ZERO produces the same results as their original formula, only without the unsafe amount of formaldehyde that caused so many problems for clients and stylists alike. Unfortunately, it’s hard to trust a company that has made endless excuses, rather than simply letting their customers know exactly what’s in their products. How can clients believe that Brazilian Blowout’s new ZERO is truly formaldehyde-free after the company has made these same claims before?

On Brazilian Blowout’s website, they still claim the original product to be formaldehyde-free. The company is facing a storm of legal attacks – the state of California is suing Brazilian Blowout for false claims to consumers, and several salon owners have filed lawsuits as well. All Brazilian Blowout products are banned in Canada.

Even though Brazilian Blowout may claim their new product ZERO is free of formaldehyde, stylists and clients should be wary of a company that has been less than truthful in the past. These chemicals are no joke – stylists need to know what they’re being exposed to on a daily basis, and clients need to know what’s being put in their hair. With Lasio products, you can rest assured that you’ll be 100% informed about the formulas, application, after care and anything else you want to know. Safety is our number one concern, and we’ve developed a product that will give you smooth, gorgeous hair with no strings attached.

Here at Lasio, we have developed the Safety 1st program to be completely sure that our stylists and customers are fully informed about all things keratin. We’re honest about our ingredients, serious about safety and completely dedicated to producing the highest-quality keratin treatments without the harmful effects. Our Safety 1st article outlines some precautions that should be taken before, during and after any keratin treatment.

Check out our Keratin Tropic FAQ and our Instructional Video for everything you need to know about a truly formaldehyde-free keratin product that really works.

Lately, all our favorite A-list celebrities have proven that up-do’s don’t have to resemble bad prom hairstyles. These days, the best up-do’s are quick, simple and effortlessly chic – for example, Reese Witherspoon’s red-carpet worthy ponytail and Anne Hathaway’s loose low bun at Sunday’s Academy Awards. One of the coolest quick and easy up-do’s we’ve come across is the double-knotted chignon. This one works for any occasion – the office, a romantic dinner, even a red-carpet event! Here’s a great tutorial, courtesy of Fashionising !

To prep your hair for the gorgeous double-knotted chignon, first blow-dry your hair and part it evenly down the center. Tightly hold two separate sections in the back, then follow these four easy steps to create your double knot.

1) Tie the two sections of your hair in a single knot, basically the same way you’d tie any knot. Place one section over the other and loop that section through.

2) Pull the two sections of hair tight.

3) Here’s where you create the double knot – repeat the first step, making another knot layered on top of the first one.

4) Secure with bobby pins at the left and right hair parts and the knot. Finish with hair spray to tie up any loose ends.

But, it was actually Jean Harlow in the 1930′s whose bright golden tresses first had women running to bleach their own locks. According to Bella Sugar , Max Factor was responsible for lightening Jean’s hair to her signature platinum color. Back in the ’30s, they used an insanely harsh concoction of of peroxide, ammonia, Clorox and soap flakes to get the desired platinum blonde – ouch! Don’t try that one at home. Jean’s ivory skin tone, girlish appearance and penciled-in brows also became a part of her trademark look. Those gorgeous finger-waves in her hair were ’30s tradition, but Jean’s are beauty-icon status. Sadly Jean Harlow, the original platinum blonde, died at the young age of 26. Marilyn Monroe, heir to the platinum-blonde throne, credited Jean as one of her main sources of inspiration. Jean was also portrayed by another fabulous blonde, Gwen Stefani, in the 2004 movie “The Aviator.” Check it out:

Lasio Studios is a proud carrier of the Matrix Professional Color Line. Recently, the Matrix Company launched a new project called “Spread the Love,” where they sent six brand new hairstylists on the journey of a lifetime. These lucky beauty school grads get to travel the entire country, visiting salons in cities vastly different from their own, and learning all the ups and downs of our complicated industry. They’ll learn new tricks and styling techniques, how to deal with the business side of things, and how to truly connect with their clients and communities.

One of the hairstyling duos, Jo & Sam , even swapped roles and ended up teaching a color lesson during their visit to a barber school in America’s heartland, the backwoods of Kentucky! Here’s what they had to say about the experience: “Today was a real uplifting day. We went to a barber school where they have just started learning about color, although they are finding it difficult to do. The students just don’t have the passion. I was able to really connect with them by talking about how haircolor got me started in this industry. I shared with them how adding a color service to their service ticket will not only add dollars to their pocket, but also improve their retention. After that, the questions started pouring in. Seeing the students hungry for more information reminded me of when I was in school.”

You can follow the three Matrix stylist teams – Kayla & LaKeisha, , Jo & Sam , and Courtney & Ashley – as they record all their experiences in their personal blogs.
